Been looking at the simply networking.es/calida_issue that I am on the mailing list for, and it seems that Sat 7th Aug will be the Electromar electronic music festival at Playa Honda. It starts at 5pm and goes on till 5am!!
Also there's a free pop concert on Tues 3rd August at Santiago de Ribeira starting 10.30 pm.
There are other concerts mentioned as well, too many to write about here. Enjoy! Juliet

Does anyone know if I can employ a person under 16 for some saturday work. My nephew in the UK has a paper round - is it the same in Spain?

Under the UN charter for the rights of the child and according to the Lisbon treaty, child labour (i.e. European children of school age ) is regarded as explotation - regardless of whether the child or their parents want them to work. Children under 16 are not allowed to work in Spain and fines are severe (especially in the current climate when councils are strapped for cash). It is very rare indeed to see a Spanish child working but quite common to see children of immigrants working - sometimes full-time. However, the ayuntamientos are on the prowl and should they catch up with you (or more likely someone else lets them know) legally you will not have a leg to stand on. Child labour is illegal in Spain and fines start at €6000. Be warned!

Hi, although they say they will be cancelling flights into murcia in favour of Alicante, do you think its anything to do with the opening of Corvera shortly. I cant believe they are promoting Alicante, surely its in their bests interest to promote Corvera as the nearest international airport for the Costa Calida.

Ryanair have cancelled flights for Nov, Dec & Jan into Murcia and other destinations, they are not flying at all from Bournemouth Airport this winter. They say its because of the £11 tourist tax that the government have started charging. If the gov take this charge off, then they will resume the flights.

Sarah,
I think you will find Ryan Air now want to use Alicante as their hub in Spain. They pulled out of Valencia last year and moved to Alicante.
Alicante is currently being built up .
I doubt if they will use Corvera and none fo the current flights to Murcia will either.I read for flights to land at Corvera they wll be charged more than Murcia and Corvera will really be for international flights .
Easyjet cancelled my flight to Gatwick when I tried to return home a few weeks ago.Everyone was given alternative flights mainly from Alicante but had to get there themselves.
I read yesterday Easyjet from Gatwick now have the worst punctuality of any airline their ,Air Zimabwee even beat the,
They have been late or cancelling a lot of flights recently because they have expanded to quickly and do not have enough staff to man the flights. Also their flights to Murcia are becoming expensive from Gatwick as there is no competition.
Until the world economy improves ,Alicante may be our best option as there are a lot flights there every day from all over the UK and competition as well makes the flights more competitive .Only disadvantage is it is an hour extra each way but the road is good.

Notice on the web cam that there has been a flurry of activity at the Sports Centre. Anybody know if they are still saying that the grand opening will be at the end of this summer?

Bit of a worrying development - Ryanair are cutting 7 out of 9 routes from UK into Murcia airport for the autumn'winter season, and have signed a new agreement with Alicante airport instead, which will include Ryanair promoting Alicante as a place to stay in and visit, rather than our region. This is because of lack of response from the head of tourism for the Murcia region following meetings with Ryanair, whose nose was put out of joint because 3m euros was given to a small internal Spanish airline tht was struggling, in theory to promote more Spanish tourism to the area - which hasn't made any difference - in fact there has been a decrease in numbers. Ryanair say they would have used that money to boost tourism effectively to Murcia region. More can be read about all this on a very good weekly newsletter entitled What's On and Where in region of Murcia on a weekly basis.
The article is balanced, and well worth reading. I think it should be published in the Spanish national press.
To receive the weekly guide Is free. To look it, or anway to subscribe, this is the link: contact@simplynetworking.es
Lots of info about all sorts of shows, fiestas, culture, and topical articles.

As owners of a holiday property, that we visit 4 times a year and rent out for the remainder, this site is very important and useful to us. Information and indeed genuine recommendations about new restaurants/shops/bars/entertainment/new developments etc posted on here is extremely helpful to us and our guests. New photographs of changes are also greatly appreciated. It all enables us to keep information in our house upto date in this constantly changing and developing area. Not to mention the fact that it all helps us to keep in touch with what is going on in this wonderful area of Spain whilst we are away.
Please keep posting everyone.

Hi
I looked into this last year but found that people weren't prepared to pay the 500 - 700 euros each to have it fitted. The problem is to get English channels you need a large satellite dish. About the size of the one on complex behind us. Then each apartment would need to buy a box, contribute to a splitter and the cable costs per metre. Not so expensive for the people on the top floor but for the ones on the bottom...............
The more people involved the cheaper it would be but unfortunately people expected it to be around 200euros.
We have decided to wait for Wi - Fi - one year on after it was mentioned at the meeting and watch channels on i-player, 4od etc etc. That is if it ever materialises!!!!

Forgot to say permission was granted for us to put up a satellite dish by the president of bloque 3.
So there is nothing to stop anyone going ahead and doing it.

The problem with iplayer and 4 OD etc is that they don't work out in Spain as the broadcaster knows you are accessing the websites outside of the UK.

Talk back is an excellent way of finding out information about the area especially if you are new to the area,it makes me very angry when some one who has nothing better to do reads peoples questions and answers and has a dig about it ....for example some one put a note saying they thought is was an information site and not a business directory.Well if some one asks for a recommendation on a restaurant or where they can find a certain shop or beach surely that is information if some one has asked for it.No doubt the person who thinks it is a business directory will some thing else to say.....bring it on
